    -Dad staying up all night at Grandma Polly's to finish the Rubix Cube (it was new then!)
    -Janice Cochran babysitting which meant Push-Up's and a Strawberry Shortcake movie, and the way her polyester pants made a swish-swish sound as she walked down the hall
    -Blanket sleepers
    -Sponge curlers
    -Nazi swim teacher and jellybeans afterwards on shriveled hands
    -blue and white checked car seat covers
    -homemade yogurt
    -powdered skim milk
    -popsicles made of apple juice (circus handles)
    -tupperware
    -Daddy jumping off diving board and "throwing" us as he jumped
    -Marco-Polo
    -Sugar- and fat-free pudding

    -Nette sucking her thumb with an finger up her nose

    -Great Mom and Aunt Lil's strawberry-themed kitchen

    -Dad doing mini-New Testament Survey courses on the white board ("Creation, Fall, Flood...")
    -Ray's curly ponytails and freckles
    -French braiding every single one of your heads some Sunday mornings
    -Frozen vegetable mix

    -Daddy walking in the door and rolling his sleeves up to start dishes, his tie thrown over one shoulder
    -Horse-play on the floor with Daddy in the evenings (especially when he was "the lion" and would tickle us if we crossed the "line")

    -Global Prayer Digest and the map with the colored pins representing missionaries we prayed for
    -hazy middle-of-the-night memories of Mama in the rocker, nursing whoever the baby was and singing Psalm 23

    -climbing on rocks in the foothils
    -Sunday afternoon "drives"
    -running through the sprinklers
    -white cotton full-slips
    -perfect "parts" in our hair
    -the taste of Mama's lipstick
    -"love you, see you in the morning, have a good night sleep, have sweet happy dreams, I love you, goodnight..." at break-neck, compulsive speed
    -Scaring the hell out of Adele in PNG because she was "mean" to Jeanette (Nette got mad at me)
    -Pop Pop scaring the hell out of some boys on Ray's bus

    -hot chocolate in the red and green handled tupperware "camping cups"
    -Advent
    -the candle snuffer
    -Mama's tears at Daddy's cards, every time
    -Making all of you grilled cheese on that huge plug-in grill thing, then cutting into triangles or squares or whatever you guys ordered
    -singing "Jesus Loves Me" every night
    -Aunt Doris' brown bread baked in a tin can
    -Aunt Beverly's cats
    -matching dresses, and more often, jumpers
    -tights that either needed to be pulled up to your nipples or sag down to your knees

    -playing "dots" during church on the program
    -Mom's "you better be quiet" look in church

    -macaroni and cheese on the nights Daddy was doing "rounds"
    -bookshelves made out of wood planks and cinder blocks
    -somebody holding your ponytail when you threw up
    -dad's car "warming up" in the driveway on winter mornings

    -Mama scratching the edge of a diaper pin in her scalp to "oil" it before sticking in the cloth diaper
    -Rubber pants
    -The wooden spoon, the flat paddle and later, THE SPANKER
    -standing in adjacent corners, trying not laugh at one another
    -little white button-up sweaters
    -jansport backpacks
    -homemade bread (no breadmaker...PANS)

    -piano lessons (the Alfred series over and over and OVER)
    -Ray's stint with the violin
